Where the IMWIRSA model is being built and tested right now — port by port.

Phase 1 · 2026–2028

Pilot Network

Five ports form the foundation stage of the MWApp port network — selected for seafarer traffic, the presence of local coordinators, and ties to organisations working in seafarer welfare.

Why these five

High seafarer footfall, an existing seafarers' centre or mission, and local coordinators ready to take on the MWApp Port Coordinator role.

📋

What "pilot" means

Full Port Card, an MWApp Port Coordinator operating to a single IMWIRSA methodology, and a structured verification loop with Central Office IMWIRSA during the MVP.

📈

What comes after

Lessons from these five ports shape the standard used to plan the onboarding of 50+ ports as part of Stage 2 (2029–2032) — a roadmap target, not a fixed timeline.

In each of these ports, the pilot is really MWApp itself at work. For the seafarer, it's a practical way to understand what's available in that specific port, how to get there, where to get help, and how to find the way safely back to the ship. Inside the app that means real, verified information on the Seafarers' Centre, transport out of the port, shops & food, emergency contacts, Spiritual Care, City Life during shore leave, and Union Help / ITF contacts — brought together in one place and kept current by the local MWApp Port Coordinator.

Recovery, Close By

Wellness Recovery Zones

A physical space, close to (or inside) the seafarers' centre, built for a short, judgement-free window of real recovery during a limited shore leave — not a clinic, a place to properly switch off.

💆

What's offered

Massage chairs, a calm relaxation space, VR-based relaxation scenarios and ambient audio — and simply a quiet room away from the ship.

🧑‍⚕️

Who provides it

Local Wellness Hosts and partner venues working with IMWIRSA — not new hires, not a new bureaucracy for the centre.

📱

How to find one

MWApp shows nearby Wellness Zones, what's there, and how to connect with the local Wellness Host — no report back to the shipping company or manning agent.

🪪

Union Premium programmes

Access to additional Wellness features under Premium is provided through participating trade union programmes. The right and terms to grant Premium Access to a union's members are set by that union, not by IMWIRSA.

🏗️

Setting one up

IMWIRSA helps a partner centre find space, choose the right equipment and get listed as a Wellness Zone in MWApp.

📊

Why it matters

The idea is simple: give seafarers an accessible way to rest and recover, even briefly, during long contracts at sea and limited time ashore.

The Data Backbone

Port Database

Behind every Port Card is a structured database — a single system of port welfare information, regularly checked with the local MWApp Port Coordinator and kept current through Central Office IMWIRSA. MWApp, the IMWIRSA MWApp Bot, and future partner integrations all read from it.

🗂️

Structured by design

Every port follows the same schema — transport, Seafarers' Centre, shops & food, emergency contacts, Spiritual Care, City Life and Union Help — so new ports plug in without custom work.

🧑‍💼

Maintained locally

Local information is checked by that port's MWApp Port Coordinator, reported through the IMWIRSA MWApp Bot, and verified by Central Office IMWIRSA before it's published or updated in MWApp.

🔐

Privacy by default

No seafarer personal data is required to view a Port Card.

Every Port Card follows the same path: local information from the MWApp Port Coordinator → checked by Central Office IMWIRSA → verification → published or updated in MWApp. It's a continuous cycle, not a one-time upload. The database is still an internal, evolving tool as the pilot network grows — a public, read-only version for partners and researchers is planned as part of Stage 2 of the roadmap.

This is a separate line from how a seafarer gets help in the moment. Port data flows from the coordinator inward for verification; a seafarer's own request for support flows outward instead — MWApp → AI Assistant → Human Support IMWIRSA → Central Office. Keeping a Port Card accurate is not the same role as being a personal support line for that seafarer.
